It often happens that we have a discussion that resembles a game of table tennis. Opponents bombard each other with devastating arguments and ignore everything the opponent has put forward. They don’t have to be trolls yet. It is true that we are dealing here with one of the characteristics of trolls, namely ignoring factual arguments, but then again, these arguments, whatever they may be, exist and are raised in the heat of the moment.

A real troll is different. A real troll practically has only one argument to support his words. The following applies: If I say it (or write it), then it is so! Sometimes he quotes a television pundit of questionable quality, but usually he avoids substantive discussion. He realizes that he has no chance at an authentic exchange of words. The troll’s job is to cause confusion, divert attention, and annoy the opponent. It often happens that the troll himself succumbs to similar emotions.

Dear trolls. I don’t have access to your camera, it’s just a picture I found in the depths of the Internet.

We already know that trolls don’t make substantive arguments. It’s easy to fall into the trap of treating anyone who dares to hold or, even worse, express different views as a troll. However, this is certainly not the case. We as a society are being manipulated. Manipulation that tells us there is only one correct point of view. If you look at the world from one point, you lose sight of an infinite number of other, no worse points.

We often find it difficult to accept that someone interprets things differently than we do. He just sees it from a different perspective. When it comes to a real discussion, both sides may think similarly but based on different experiences. A common case is a marital dispute in which both parties hold virtually the same views and use different words.
