Today I will present you the current geopolitical situation in the world. We compare five countries that maintain military bases outside their own territory.

China maintains a military base in a foreign country in Djibouti.
France: military bases in 11 countries. In Djibouti, United Arab Emirates, Gabon, Senegal, Chad, Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and Mauritania.
The UK has military bases in 11 countries: Canada, Cyprus, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Belize, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Singapore, Brunei and Nepal.
Apart from Russia, Russian military bases are located in 9 countries: Syria, Vietnam, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The US maintains military bases in 42 countries outside the US.

Djibouti, a country in East Africa, lies on the Gulf of Aden in a strait through which all ships entering the Suez Canal from the Indian Ocean pass. This strategic position has resulted in many countries including Japan, Spain, Italy, the US, China and France having military bases there. After a 2020 “accident” in the Suez Canal area, when a ship “accidentally” turned around and blocked the canal for weeks, China accelerated construction of an aircraft carrier port.

The situation described is dynamic. According to recent reports, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has approved the deployment of Russian troops (including military ships and aircraft) from the second half of 2022. The reaction of the USA to the stationing of Russian missiles in Central America will be interesting.
