Derrick Broze is a freelance journalist, author, documentary filmmaker, and political activist from Houston, Texas. He is known for his work focusing on anti-corporatism, civil rights, and decentralization.

“It’s not enough to be awake anymore.” Derrick Broze explains what people must do if they want to escape the technocratic future.

On May 24, 2026, Daily Pulse published an article on vigilantfox.com, based on the book by Derrick Broze: How to “Opt-Out” of The Great Reset?

A bug-out bag is unnecessary. What good would it do? Imagine the most favorable conditions: summer, a nearby forest. How long can a person survive under such conditions, cut off from civilization? How well prepared are they? Even with water purification in the backpack, finding food in today’s forest will be extremely difficult. Especially since the forest will be densely populated with other, often hungry, refugees.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but you have to prepare for such a life both theoretically and practically. In my youth, I attended several scout camps, which I remember fondly. If I claimed that was enough to survive alone in the woods, I’d be lying. The forest camp had a kitchen where a cook prepared meals for a group of hungry scouts. There was also an organized food supply. No, that’s not preparation for survival under extreme conditions.

City life has accustomed us to comfort and safety. How many of us can even distinguish a grass snake from a venomous one? I estimate that only about 5% of us are adequately prepared to survive in the woods for more than a week.

I’ve only listed the basic problems of living in the forest here. What about forest robbers? You might say there are no robbers, and you’d be right. They only appear in times of crisis. Hard times breed heroes and villains, with the latter being more common. Staying home can also be deadly—there are no easy solutions. But even without electricity and running water, survival at home is easier if you prepare for difficult times in advance.

The goal wasn’t waiting for some future political savior or endlessly consuming alarming headlines online. It was ordinary people slowly becoming harder to control by becoming less dependent.
