China, a fundamentally communist state with capitalist economic policies, fits neither the definition of communism nor that of capitalism. This country has created its own political-economic system, which I would simply call the Chinese system. The totalitarian obsession with control, inherited from the past and significantly enhanced by technological progress, is a remnant of Mao Zedong’s policies and a consequence of the events in Tiananmen Square in June 1989.

This is what the clearance sale of last year’s smartphone models looks like in China.

I greatly appreciate the Middle Kingdom’s balanced foreign policy. They do not impose their ideology on anyone, as the ill-fated USSR did. In contrast to the West’s “gun-slinging” policy—where might makes right—China pursues a peaceful policy of economic growth rather than the aggressive subjugation of militarily weaker countries. And in this contest, they are clearly the favorite.

On April 23, the U.S. Treasury Department widened its Iran sanctions drive to target Chinese firms allegedly tied to Tehran’s oil trade, raising the stakes in an already volatile confrontation over energy flows and wartime risk. China has now moved beyond condemning U.S. sanctions to formally ordering non-compliance, with China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) making its ban effective immediately.

It’s true that Trump holds all the cards. Every single one of them is a “hot potato” that should be gotten rid of immediately.

A meeting between Trump and Xi is scheduled to take place in Beijing in a week. Upon his return, Trump will announce yet another “success,” which consists of transferring sovereignty over Taiwan to China, following the Hong Kong model. Where is the success in that? Well, China will allow Washington to end the dollar’s dominance on its own, without accelerating this inevitable process. The Fed plans to reprint 4.4 billion banknotes by 2026. However, it has not been specified whether these are one-dollar bills.

U.S. President Trump: “I believe that China has neither the courage nor the will to open the Strait of Hormuz.”

The U.S. has certainly demonstrated its courage. Although it has three aircraft carriers and more than a dozen warships stationed near the Gulf of Oman, it is unable to use its dubious power to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In addition to military strength, this requires a sound strategy and the ability to adapt more quickly to changing conditions of war.

In Ukraine, it has become clear that even thousands of tanks are powerless against the attacks of pesky “mosquitoes”—that is, drones. The Israeli army experienced the same thing in southern Lebanon. The attackers are applying the principle of the fool from Albert Einstein’s famous quote: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We’ll send more expensive tanks; maybe then they’ll run out of these cheap drones. I think another quote from Einstein fits this insane strategy even better: Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; as for the universe, I’m not so sure.

The “war criminal” Putin has warned the residents of Kyiv and the embassies of all countries that the center of Kyiv could be destroyed in retaliation for possible attacks by the West’s “defenders” from Kyiv on Red Square on the anniversary of the end of World War II. The noble “hero” Zelenskyy has never warned the Russian population of his attacks.

In all this, Europe holds the weakest hand. The decline of NATO and the lack of a significant military power backed by an aggressive anti-Russian policy have left Europeans with only one weapon: the power of humor. Four years ago, a new virtual state called Listenburg emerged in Europe.

Europe with (left) and without (right) Listenbourg.

Humor may not protect us from missiles, but it helps us withstand the psychological pressure exerted by pro-war fanatics. It is a powerful European bulwark against enemies who use propaganda to turn friendly nations into potential adversaries.
