Dr David Bell is a clinical and public health physician with a PhD in population health and background in internal medicine, modelling and epidemiology of infectious disease. Biotech, however, is firmly in the driving seat of global health, and public health workers and the media know who butters their bread. Each public health worker who goes along with the narrative is part of the problem, whilst each journalist printing stupidity is driving more poverty and harm. Infectious diseases exist and are transmitted in some way. But how does this actually happen? Science offers no satisfactory answer to this question. Fear is one of the strongest—if not the strongest—drivers of human behavior. There’s no point in arguing with people who are overcome by such a powerful emotional impulse. It’s not impossible, of course, but it takes time for their emotions to subside. Even today, I still occasionally encounter people wearing masks on the subway. Of course, aside from fear, there may be other reasons for this behavior, such as protection from dust in the air. I do not condemn these frightened people for thoughtlessly giving in to this hysteria. The blame clearly lies with those who fueled the panic.
