Larry C. Johnson is a former CIA officer and intelligence analyst, as well as a former planning specialist and advisor in the U.S. State Department’s Office of Counterterrorism. As an independent contractor, he has been conducting training for U.S. military special operations forces for 24 years. In his article The Data Doesn’t Support the Charge: Iran and the “Number One Sponsor of Terrorism” Claim, published Tuesday on sonar21.com, he writes the following:

Hamas and Hezbollah have launched thousands of rockets at Israel over 25 years. The death toll specifically from those rockets across 2001–2025 is on the order of 50 to 75 people — not the “thousands” the coverage implies. The gap between the two numbers is the whole point. Set against this is the asymmetry no honest accounting can skip. Israel killed an estimated 11,200–11,500 Palestinians between 2000 and October 6, 2023. Since October 7, the figure in Gaza has climbed past 73,000 by the Gaza Health Ministry’s count — a number an Israeli military official effectively conceded in January 2026, accepting more than 71,000 killed by direct Israeli fire.

Terrorism is violence against civilians for political purposes.

According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who remains in office, terrorism is: violence against civilians for political purposes. An apt description of the policy of the state that occupies Palestine. As Larry C. Johnson writes, data from the U.S. State Department contradicts the media’s portrayal of Iranian terrorism. This is not the first time that mass propaganda has been based on massive lies. It’s just like in Orwell: lies are truth, war is peace, and the war on terrorism is a pretext for terrorism.

When the USSR collapsed under its own weight, a vague sense of fear gripped the high-ranking generals at the Pentagon. How could they justify the massive military spending if the enemy no longer posed a threat? The answer is simple: find another enemy. And that is how the idea of the “war on terror” came about.

Al-Qaeda and the terrorist attack on Manhattan on September 11, 2001, were created because there was a need for terrorism. A pretext was needed to justify tyranny. Today we know that the CIA was behind it.

In the 1980s, attacks by genuine terrorist groups shook the world. These included the Red Army Faction (RAF) in Germany, the Basque ETA in Spain, the IRA—the Irish Republican Army—and the Red Brigades in Italy.

Europe was not the only “playground” for assassins at that time. To justify the war on terror, the U.S. founded, armed, and financed organizations such as Al-Qaeda—founded by CIA agent Osama bin Laden—the Islamic State (ISIS), the Taliban—an Afghan fundamentalist Islamist movement trained by the CIA in Pakistan—and Boko Haram: a brutal Islamist sect active primarily in Nigeria and the Lake Chad region that was formerly affiliated with ISIS.

The bodies of 50 Palestinians, which were found in recent days by civil defense teams at the Al-Shifa Hospital complex in the western part of Gaza City, are currently being buried.

Israel fights terrorism with terrorism. It is trying to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while at the same time keeping several hundred nuclear missiles on standby. After all, we have to defend ourselves against terrorism—that’s the hasbara, the Israeli propaganda, that explains why Israel is allowed to murder civilians. So what if we murder children in the Gaza Strip—they’re just future terrorists! Because Israel can do whatever it wants. You disagree? Then you’re an anti-Semite!
