When I chose freedom over 40 years ago and stayed in the West, I wondered how strong the democratic institutions were and whether anyone could succeed in seizing power here and establishing a dictatorship. I was assured that something like that could never happen. Several decades later, no one offers such guarantees anymore.
I, too, saw the world in black and white back then: the good U.S. and the evil USSR. Yet it would have been enough to take a closer look at the Vietnam War and the circumstances that led to it… But I didn’t do that until much later. I take comfort in the fact that, to this day, many people still don’t concern themselves with such trifles as the lie about the alleged attack in the Gulf of Tonkin, or the enormous destruction caused by Presidents Johnson and Nixon’s warmongering, as well as the thousands of civilian casualties in Nicaragua—casualties that were only possible thanks to the criminal support the United States provided to the butcher Somoza. Ever since the McCarthy era in 1947, Russia has been viewed as the “evil devil” that had to be eliminated.
On the other hand, we have the USSR’s “fraternal assistance” in Hungary (1956), the invasion by “friends” in Czechoslovakia in 1968, the war in Afghanistan (1979–1989), and—thanks to the tireless efforts of today’s Russian president—the oil war in Chechnya (1999–2009). However, a comparison between Russia and the United States regarding war crimes is extremely naive and betrays an extremely superficial knowledge of history.
For a good 100–120 years, the lion’s share of responsibility for land grabs, the exploitation of the world’s natural resources, wars and conflicts, lies, and the resulting destabilization in many countries around the world—as well as for deaths and injuries—has fallen on the shoulders of these so-called “good” heroes and liberators of humanity: the United States.
It is not Russia that poses a threat to Europe, but rather the U.S.’s unbridled greed for power and natural resources that poses a threat to the entire world!
For those who don’t remember—the Iran-Contra Affair (1985–1987): U.S. government officials illegally sold weapons to Iran and used the proceeds to fund the Contras rebels in Nicaragua, even though Congress had banned such actions.
The assessment in the video shown above is based on years of manipulation of public opinion and has little to do with reality. Comparing one country to another is based solely on that country’s politics, and that says little about its people. In my opinion, U.S. politics deserves first place in this ranking, and I’m not going to decide for you which category it belongs in.
