The shifting mood regarding the war in the Persian Gulf is the result of Donald Trump’s negotiating tactics. For many weeks now, we’ve been hearing that an agreement is expected and that a (as always, false) declaration of friendship is almost about to be made, only to hear or read a post from the president on truthsocial.com a few hours later stating that the Pentagon will lead Iran into a new era of the half-split stone in the coming days. We know this all too well, and that is why no one believes in the agreement until it is announced by both sides.

Washington, June 2036. “An agreement with Iran is imminent.”

The American side wants to emerge from a lost war with dignity, and Tehran does not want to alienate the agreement’s opponents within its own country. A situation typical of negotiations. The strength of the U.S. lies in the myth of its power, which has just been disproved in this very war. The result will likely be a half-baked compromise that will not satisfy the skeptics on either side of the conflict. There is a third party: Israel. The press there is loudly crying out about the betrayal of an ally—which was predictable.

An interview on YouTube with Iranian professor Seyed Mohammad Marandi sheds some light on this situation.

A deal is possible, perhaps even closer than ever before. But it would not be an American triumph; rather, it would be an admission that Iran could not be subdued by military means. For Marandi, this marks the beginning of a new era in the Middle East: the time when the U.S. and Israel could launch attacks without facing serious consequences is over. Source.

I don’t think Iran is negotiating with the U.S. in the way depicted in the image above. However, there are aspects of this conflict that suggest a deal with Trump is possible.
