A world without apps. A blackout that changes everything. When four hackers set out to break humanity’s digital dependency, they push society to the brink of collapse. Amidst the chaos, Mara is forced to confront her own addiction. The AI of her late husband was her last remaining link – yet even that vanishes. As the world suddenly goes “offline”, Mara must learn to let go – and, amidst the chaos, discovers true human connection. This documentary drama by Kla.TV and Panorama-Film confronts us with our own reality and is a true masterpiece. Documentary insights into topics such as Wi-Fi sensing, the dangers of wireless communication, digital surveillance, and app-based parking complement the narrative, lending additional depth to the story. The attempt to save the world by blocking all smartphone apps. Not a bad idea, though not as easy to implement as this film portrays. What is realistic, however, is the method of tracking down such a group and monitoring people by analyzing Wi-Fi interference. Such surveillance techniques exist and are already in use.

Our artificial world of smartphones isn’t really real. It’s virtual, and in it, most of us gather virtual life experiences. Yet life on social media distances us from one another and leads us exactly where the manipulators want us to go. Take a look at how the virtual world influences everyday behavior. Things as ordinary as putting on socks:

Cell phones make you stupid.
Source.

Admiring the beauty of the nature around us, a private conversation face to face, a smile that lifts your spirits, the sparkle in a loved one’s eyes instead of the flickering of a cell phone screen—that is real, non-virtual life. The only problem in real life is the need to use one’s own mind, without instructions from an artificially manipulated pseudo-intelligence. Many people cannot imagine a day without checking Facebook. An app that was stolen and spread by a sociopath incapable of living in society.

Put your smartphone away, or at least limit your use of it. To start with, just “forget” to take it with you when you leave the house. The world will survive without being in touch with you, and you’ll discover real life—not this artificial existence based on a carefully orchestrated manipulation of our thoughts, delivered to us via a device that was actually only meant to replace old landline phones.
