Clinging desperately to the myth of the United States as a former superpower will no longer change anything. A whole series of faded dreams has come to naught—who still believes today in a “made in the USA” shield? Virtually all American military bases in the Persian Gulf, which were intended to act as a deterrent by their mere presence, now instill fear in the soldiers fleeing from them.
