The aim is to eliminate the defense as far as possible; everything should be left to the defendant himself. Franz Kafka – The Trial.
The individual as a victim of the absurdity of bureaucracy. It sounds like a surreal scene. When a person is unexpectedly arrested and charged with a crime they did not commit, and when the only argument for the charge is a facial recognition algorithm kept secret by the prosecution and the court, it is a literary fantasy straight out of Franz Kafka’s famous novel.
The lie is made into the world order. Franz Kafka – The Trial.
This is, after all, only a literary fantasy? Well, no, this is reality, the nightmare of an innocent man selected by a computer algorithm to be the perpetrator of a murder. We can read about it in an article published June 3 on Reclaim The Net: Guilty by Algorithm.
You don’t have to think everything is true, you just have to think it’s necessary. Franz Kafka – The Trial.
Any of us can be accused and convicted. You just have to let a computer program decide on your physiognomy. An alibi? Perhaps you remember what you did on a certain day four years ago? Do you have any witnesses? No. Then you are guilty – our computer said so.
Strangely enough, the algorithms do not identify the real criminals. Maybe it’s because one of them published the most dangerous virus and called it Windows.

What an omission! In the end, the detainees are stripped of their watches, belts and, above all, ties so that they don’t end up like their buddy Epstein.
The police like to use grid searches. It makes their job easier, and they don’t have to track down criminals themselves when a computer can do it for them. If an algorithm spots your face on a surveillance video near a crime scene and, God forbid, at a time just before the event, they’ve already got you. A sincere confession mitigates the penalty! They don’t even need informers – friendly information providers.
Someone must have slandered Josef K., because without him having done anything wrong, he was arrested one morning. Franz Kafka – The Trial.

Temida’s blindfold does not serve justice. This blindfold is hollow – it keeps the more powerful and wealthier criminals out of the noose.

You believe in it until you fall victim to it.
In the article in question, the defendant is a randomly selected citizen. It is irrelevant who he voted for in the election – it is not a political process. It is a policy of oppression that allows any person to be convicted, regardless of what they have done.
We are told that we live in a constitutional state, when impunity for only a few is a central tenet of state activism. When guilt is not proven but serves as a pretext for punishment, the law is driven to absurd acts that defy the principles of logic and common sense.
Like a dog! he said, it was as if shame should outlive him. Franz Kafka – The Trial.
