Intellectual atrophy is a weakening or loss of cognitive abilities and critical thinking. It results from a lack of regular mental exertion and our reliance on external aids such as artificial intelligence or the Internet. This works much like a lack of exercise, which weakens muscles.
Who says so? The very artificial intelligence we’re talking about here. That’s where my mental laziness just reared its head, because instead of looking it up in reputable—though not always reliable—sources like the Encyclopædia Britannica, I asked the culprit itself what the cause of this problem is.
On August 6, an article by Brandon Smith titled The Darker Purpose Behind the Race for AI was published on birchgold.com.
The futurists and technocrats of every socialist revolution have been promising to eliminate drudgery and build a laborless Utopia for over a century. Usually this propaganda is designed to ease the public transition into a system in which the state controls production and limits individual freedoms (for their own good, of course).
AI is not an industrial revolution in the traditional sense because it’s not driven by free market demand. Most people can easily live without AI and the benefit to their lives is barely noticeable or non-existent. The second industrial revolution introduced electricity, unprecedented medical advancement, long distance communications and easy transportation; all things that people never want to live without.
AI pales in comparison so far, and the promises that propel its popularity require an energy renaissance that isn’t possible for many decades to come. Sadly, the most logical use for the proliferation of AI is suppression of the populace. For the autocrats, the AI race is not about improving the future for the common man. It’s about injecting the technology of ubiquitous surveillance into the common man’s life – before he has a chance to realize he’s being chained down by it.
The enormous energy demands of new data centers for artificial intelligence are driving the construction of numerous gas-fired power plants in the United States. Ten new plants are being built in Ohio, a startup in West Virginia is planning hundreds of gas generators, and even Elon Musk is relying on gas turbines for his AI servers. Wind and solar energy simply aren’t capable of meeting this massive, predictable demand for electricity. Source.
Are you working on your dissertation? What’s the big deal about delegating this task to an AI? Many doctoral students don’t even bother to read the generated text and submit it to their advisor as their own work. Or are you composing music, writing a book, blogging, or painting? Grok and its competitors are just waiting to take on such a task. And so, those meager remnants of natural intelligence that still surface here and there from this chaos of computer-generated works are banished into exile by sheer intellectual laziness.
