Iran has succeeded in debunking the myth of the invincible U.S. military. Iran is in the process of closing American military bases in the Persian Gulf. Iran is exerting economic pressure on the oil markets. Iran is taking advantage of its geographic location, which makes an invasion of Iran by the U.S. military practically impossible. Iran is capitalizing on the upcoming midterm elections in the United States. A Republican defeat in Congress and the Senate would paralyze the U.S. government and could lead to Trump’s removal from office—an impeachment.
Trump is trying to reconcile the irreconcilable: He wants a way out of the war without admitting defeat. He wants negotiations without backing down from his demands. And he wants to declare victory, even though Iran is capable of attacking military targets. In this situation, only Tom Cruise could succeed!
