The traditional newspaper model isn’t dying because of TikTok, algorithms, or the internet. It’s dying from within. From political bias, moralizing indoctrination, ideological narrow-mindedness, and an editorial culture that prioritizes stance over information and opinion over analysis. Readers aren’t leaving because they no longer want news—they’re leaving because they no longer want this kind of journalism.
Yesterday’s article on Report24, from which I quoted an excerpt above, is titled: The great exodus from newspapers – the people are turning their backs on the mainstream. Source.

Since the 1990s, when the Internet began its rapid conquest as a tool for fast information transfer, the press has felt the real impact of this development, the dissemination of which it had previously monopolized. Online platforms for most daily newspapers, weekly magazines, and other regularly published publications sprang up like mushrooms after rain. Who is willing to buy a bulky paper newspaper to read what they already read the day before on an Internet portal? Of course, there are people who always consume a paper newspaper with their morning coffee. However, the feeling for this tradition is dwindling with the entry of the younger generation into the media market and the natural extinction of the older generation.

If we add to this situation the mentor-like style and one-sidedness of the imposed views that dominate today’s media offerings, it is not surprising that both the number of newspaper subscribers and occasional readers is declining. Treating readers like dumb idiots who are just waiting to be told how to think about every issue affects readers’ nervous systems more than their perception of reality.

This process is slow but inexorable, because arrogance and denial of one’s own mistakes always precede downfall. Instead of informing, they write propaganda texts. Only like-minded people are invited to “discussions”; if someone with independent thinking shows up, they are shouted down and insulted with accusations that have no factual basis. Today’s public media are a playground for malicious trolls.
