If we label corruption as lobbying and declare it legal, it remains common, often criminal, bribery. If we refer to civilians killed—whether accidentally or not—not as victims of war but as collateral damage, it changes nothing—they are victims of human brutality in war. If a ceasefire is declared and yet defenseless civilians are still shot, we are still dealing with genocide. All these situations have one thing in common: The public more readily accepts crimes against others when they are properly named.

Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist who served as a foreign correspondent for The New York Times for fifteen years. Chris Hedges published an article on his website, chrishedges.substack.com, on Monday: Rebranding Genocide.
First, it was Israel’s right to defend itself. Then it was a war, even though, by Israel’s own military intelligence database, 83 percent of the casualties were civilians. The 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, living under an Israeli air, land and sea blockade, have no army, air force, no mechanized units, no tanks, no navy, no missiles, no heavy artillery, no fleets of killer drones, no sophisticated tracking systems to map all movements, or an ally like the United States, which has given Israel at least $21.7 billion in military aid since Oct. 7, 2023.
Of course, one must defend oneself. Especially when the “victim” has enlisted their own intelligence services to create such “reasons” for this defense. How does this happen? We recently witnessed it in Australia, where Mossad carried out a terrorist attack on randomly selected Jews celebrating the secular custom of lighting Hanukkah candles.

During World War II, some wealthier Jews had the opportunity to flee to Palestine, mostly via the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanța. Today, they contribute to the well-being of their hosts.
Eighty-two percent of Israeli Jews support the ethnic cleansing of the entire population of Gaza and 47 percent support killing all civilians in cities captured by the Israeli military. Fifty-nine percent support doing the same to Palestinian citizens of Israel. Seventy-nine percent of Israeli Jews say they are “not so troubled” or “not troubled at all” by reports of famine and suffering among the population in Gaza, according to a survey conducted in July. The words “Erase Gaza” appeared more than 18,000 times in Hebrew-language Facebook posts in 2024 alone, according to a new report on hate speech and incitement against Palestinians.
